# @mentions

> Use @mentions to add any user or team to a conversation.

To easily add a [team](/administration/admin-teams) or an individual [user](/administration/admin-users) to a conversation that you own, use our @mentions feature. In the write a message field OR within the yellow [internal note](/features/adding-an-internal-note) (if you don't want the contact to get a text message), simply input the @ sign and then suggestions will populate as you type the name of user or team.

I would recommend using this feature within the *yellow internal notes* as those are *only seen by Captivated users*. If you use the @mention feature in an outbound text to a client, it will still alert the user, but be sure you make the language customer facing.

Once you select the user or team, it will input that name in blue highlight in the write a message field or yellow internal note.

Hit enter.

In the conversations tab on the left, the user/team that was mentioned will see a red notification in the @mentions section.

Once you click into the tab and into the conversation, you need to choose either "dismiss" or "join".

If you dismiss, the conversation will remove from the @mentions tab. If you hit join, it will join you to that conversation so you can respond accordingly.
